Tutorial: Offer a Lead Magnet
Offer a free resource — a PDF, a checklist, a mini-course, or a template — in exchange for an email address. This is one of the most effective ways to grow your list with people who are already interested in your topic.
There are two ways to set this up on TinyPages. Choose the one that fits your situation.
- Option A is the fastest to build, but it sends an automatic access email you can't customize or turn off. If you also send your own welcome email, subscribers get two emails close together.
- Option B takes a few more steps and lets you send a single welcome email that you fully control. It's the right fit for a downloadable resource like a PDF. Since there's no free product, subscribers don't get a member account, so avoid it when your lead magnet is a mini-course that needs product access.
Option A — Lead magnet directly in the form (simplest)
This approach puts everything on one page: the visitor sees your offer, enters their email, and immediately receives the free resource.
- Go to Products in your dashboard → click New product.
- Set the price to $0 → click Save.
- Go to Pages → click New page → open it in the editor.
- Build your landing page — write a headline, describe the free resource, and add some compelling copy.
- In the editor, type
/emailto insert the Email Capture block. - Click on the Email Capture block → the settings panel opens on the right → enable the Lead magnet toggle → select the free product you created in step 1.
- Click Publish → choose a slug (e.g.,
free-guide) → confirm. - Share the page URL with your audience.
Option B — Two-page funnel (you own the welcome email)
This approach delivers the resource on a dedicated thank-you page and sends your welcome email through an automation you build yourself. There's no free product involved, so no automatic access email goes out: the subscriber gets a single email, written by you. It's the right choice when you want full control over the first message people receive.
- Go to Pages → click New page → create your thank-you page. Type
/fileto insert a File block and upload your PDF, so subscribers can download it right there → click Publish. - Create a second page as your opt-in page → insert an Email Capture block.
- In the block settings panel → assign a Tag on subscribe (e.g.,
lead-magnet-guide) → set the Redirect destination → select Web page → choose the thank-you page created in step 1. Leave the Lead magnet toggle off. - Click Publish on the opt-in page.
- Go to Automations → create a new automation triggered by the tag from step 3 → add your welcome email and schedule it for day 0 (sent immediately on subscribe).
With Option B, the thank-you page can also include a pitch for a paid offer — a natural next step once the subscriber has received their free resource.
