Double Opt-In
Double opt-in adds an email verification step before a new subscriber is officially added to your list. It's an optional feature, but one worth understanding — especially if you send to audiences in countries with strict email marketing regulations.
How it works
When double opt-in is enabled, submitting an Email Capture form doesn't immediately add the contact to your list. Instead:
- The visitor submits the form
- They receive an automated email with a verification link
- They click the link to confirm their address
- Only then are they confirmed as a contact and added to your list
If they don't click the verification link, they remain unconfirmed and won't receive your emails.
Why use double opt-in?
- Better list quality — only real, active email addresses make it onto your list. No typos, no fake addresses.
- Better deliverability — email providers (Gmail, Outlook, etc.) treat your emails more favorably when your list has high engagement and low bounce rates.
- Legal compliance — in some countries (notably Germany under GDPR regulations), double opt-in is legally required for email marketing.
How to enable it
Go to Settings → Account and toggle Double opt-in on. This applies globally to all Email Capture forms on your site.
note
Double opt-in applies to Email Capture form submissions only. Contacts added through a free or paid product purchase are not subject to double opt-in.
